Radio communication with Micro:bit

Radio communication with Micro:bit is a feature that allows Micro:bit to send and receive wireless signals. Micro:bit’s built-in radio module can be used to wirelessly communicate with other Micro:bits, remote control other devices and collect and transmit data.

The radio module uses the 2.4GHz ISM band and operates on a proprietary protocol, which allows for low-power, short-range communication. It has a range of around 100m (with line of sight).

To use radio communication with Micro:bit, you need to set up the radio module by initializing it and configuring it with the same channel and group on both Micro:bits.

Once the radio module is set up, you can use the Micro:bit’s built-in radio functions to send and receive messages. For example, you can use the radio.sendNumber() function to send a number and the radio.receiveNumber() function to receive a number.

It’s important to note that the Micro:bit radio module does not support encryption, so it’s not recommended to use it for sensitive or personal data transfer.

The micro:bit card is equipped with a Bluetooth radio antenna.

The radio antenna on the device operates in the following frequencies, 2.4 GHz to 2.499 GHz.

The micro:bit card therefore allows communications by sending or receiving radio messages in the form of electromagnetic waves.

To use the radio, you must have at least 2 micro:bit cards.

At start-up, set “radio group” in the same range for both boards.

These ranges (groups) can range from 1 to 256.
